El Gouna Film Festival draws to a close Friday

The fourth annual El Gouna Film Festival (GFF) is coming to a close on Friday, ending strong with a screening of 14 films.

A total of 65 films from 42 countries were shown during the seven-day festival, which was held on the shores of the Red Sea in Egypt’s resort town of El Gouna.

On Thursday, the winning projects and films were announced, with Arab filmmakers among the winners.

Goodbye Julia by Mohamed Kordofani (Sudan) won the prize for best project in development (CineGouna Platform Certificate and a cash prize of US$15,000).

Life Suits Me Well by Al Hadi Ulad Mohand (Morocco) received the prize for best film in post-production (CineGouna Platform Certificate and a cash prize of US$15,000).

GFF presents each year fresh original films from around the Arab region and world, promoting cross-cultural interaction and understanding through the art of film.

Operating under strict COVID-19 precautionary measures, the festival witnessed fewer films and attendees due to the pandemic.

The films scheduled for Friday are “Bidaya” (A Start), “Softy”, “al-Darba al-Kobra” (The Major Blow), “Bullmastiff”, “Tasalsol Sareeh” (Explicit Sequence), “Pillar”, “Moat Masoul Hokoumy” (The Death of a Government Official), “Ann Osbeh Ommi” (To Become My Mother), “Josep”, “Nihayet September” (The End of September), “La Abky Abadan” (I Never Cry), “Mika”, “Sabey al-Hout” (The Whale’s Boy), and “Under the Stars of Paris”.
