Mohamed ElBaradei, founder of the National Association for Change, has called on the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) to hold a serious civil dialogue through a consultative council of 50 experts. The dialogue would help establish national strategies for the coming period.
Speaking to a conference at the American University in Cairo on Thursday, ElBaradei said: "We will not be another Malaysia in two years, but we will be fine by 2015 or 2020.”
He hoped that the million-man demonstration on Friday, which will demand purging government of remnants of the former regime, will be the last demonstration of its kind.
“I hope the military council meets the demands of the people,” he said, adding that he feels the military has been slow in responding to demands thus far.
He also called on the SCAF to bring ousted President Hosni Mubarak and his family, not only his subordinates, to trial.
He said that a counter-revolution often follows a revolution, and that the government should take steps to halt any attempts at a counter-revolution that might be underway.
“To reach our basic freedoms, we need a true democratic system,” he said.
