“Resisting the states sponsoring terrorism in all its forms has become obligatory, and the elimination of the threat of terrorism can not be achieved without destroying its infrastructure, whether financial or intellectual,” said President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in a speech on Wednesday evening.
Sisi called on the countries sponsoring terrorism for constructive cooperation to achieve the interests of all people.
“Egypt will be triumphant, God willing, over terrorism thanks to the [Egyptian people’s] steadfastness and the sacrifices of the armed forces and police,” Sisi said, warning that Egypt’s national security is a line not to be crossed.
“While the Egyptian government and people are exerting the utmost efforts to fight terrorism militarily, intellectually and politically, other brotherly and non-brotherly countries are backing it through billions of dollars annually,” Sisi mentioned in the speech he delivered on the occasion of Laylat al-Qadr.
The president praised Al-Azhar and stressed the need for the renovation of the religious discourse. “There are groups who have been misinterpreting and exploiting religion to achieve political objectives over decades, which spread extremism and seclusion,” he said.
At the end of his speech, Sisi spoke of attempts to undermine the security of Egypt and stressed the importance of securing vital institutions, churches, and mosques.
