The Employees of the Egyptian Environment Ministry in the Red Sea governorate, alongside volunteers, NGOs, and the Scouts Association celebrated World Cleanup Day by clearing beaches from plastic waste and debris.
Activities included collecting a large amount of waste and sea waste and transporting it to the environmental landfill.
The participants stressed their keenness on community participation to help in preserving the biological diversity of natural resources, as it represents one of the most important sources of national income and the importance of preserving it for future generations, and maximizing its importance in eco-tourism.
A lecture was also held on the importance of natural resources including coral reefs in the Red Sea, their economic and environmental importance, the importance of preserving them as an economic resource and geological structures.
The Director of Media at the General Administration of Environment Ebtisam Yousry said that during the campaign, participants were made aware of the harmful effects of human activities and the dumping of garbage in the marine environment.
The importance of community participation in raising awareness of this problem and working to reduce plastic consumption was emphasized during the event.
A large number of children participated in the activities, ensuring that from a young age they would learn to value marine life and biodiversity as a right for future generations to enjoy natural resources.
