The Coptic Community in the US announced it will hold a demonstration on Monday to protest the status of Christians in Egypt, particularly in the governorates of Minya and Qena.
In a statement on the internet, the protesters called on other Christians to join the protest against the Egyptian regime for its violations against Christians in Egypt. The protest is being led by the Coptic Egyptian-American journalist Magdi Khalil, executive director of the Middle East Freedom Forum.
The protesters are scheduled to gather at 12 PM in front of the headquarters of the Egyptian Delegation to the United Nations in New York. They will then march to the United Nations building and continue protesting until 4 PM.
The protest seeks to bring attention to the disgraceful status of Christians in Egypt and the passivity of the regime with regards to crimes committed against Christians, the statement said, adding that this apathy stands in contrast to the millions of dollars that were spent by the government to defend the rights of one Egyptian citizen in Germany in the murder case of Marwa el-Sherbiny.
Meanwhile, several Coptic human rights organizations called on the Orthodox Church to annul Christian celebrations in protest of what they described as the persecution of Copts in Egypt.
