Facilities on import of cars by Egyptian expats to be extended for 2 months

A draft law has been submitted by MP Hisham Helal to extend the deadline of facilities granted to Egyptian expatriates to import cars free of customs duty, the Undersecretary of the Parliament’s Plan and Budget Committee MP Yasser Omar announced.

In televised statements on Tuesday, Omar explained that the proposed amendment regarding the exemption of cars from customs adds two months to the initiative period so that Egyptian expatriates are allowed to benefit from the law.

He added that the Parliament’s Plan and Budget Committee approved the proposal in principle, referring to the cabinet’s request to discuss this matter in a broader way with other government agencies.

Omar noted that there will be a meeting of the Plan and Budget Committee next week for final approval.

The Parliament’s Plan and Budget Committee approved the draft law submitted by Helal and 60 other MPs (more than a tenth of the number of parliament members), amending some provisions of Law No. 161 of 2022 regarding granting some facilities to Egyptians residing abroad.

Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Alaa Eddin Fouad, explained during the meeting of the Plan and Budget Committee, on Tuesday, that expatriates had demanded extending the implementation of the facilities on the import of cars, so an amendment was proposed by Helal to extend the deadline of the facilities in the draft law for two months.
