Egyptian swimmer Farida Osman has won the silver medal for the women’s 100 meter butterfly swimming event in the Mediterranean Games on Saturday, which run in Spain, Tarragona from June 22 until July 1.
Osman made time at 58.51 seconds after the Italian swimmer Elena Di Liddo, who won the gold at 57.59s, while Greek swimmer Anna Ntountounaki came third with time of 58.78s .
In the first day of swimming competitions, Egypt won two medals; the silver for Osman, and bronze medal for Marwan al-Kamash in the men’s 200m freestyle.
The Egyptian swimming team is competing in 27 competitions for men and four for women. The Egyptian swimming team includes nine swimmers, eight men and a woman.
The only medal achieved by the Egyptian swimmer in the last edition of the Mediterranean Games in Mersin, Turkey, 2013 came through Osman in the 50m butterfly competition, with a time of 26.15s, breaking the record for the game.
Osman is an Egyptian competitive butterfly and freestyle swimmer who has broken records and won gold medals in all the African Games in the 50m and 100m butterfly swimming competitions for the last several years, and is considered to be fastest female swimmer in Egypt and Africa.
The 22-year-old athlete was named as the Best African Female Athlete at the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Awards 2017 in Prague. She also snatched the bronze medal in the women’s 50 meter butterfly final in Budapest in July the same year after achieving a time of 25.39 seconds.
