Sources at the Ministry of Supply said farmers have supplied 1.7 million tons of domestic wheat to the General Authority for Supply Commodities since April to produce subsidized bread.
Ministry Undersecretary Hisham Kamel said supply procedures were followed without any problems. “The government raised its purchasing price to LE420 per ton and the storage price to LE75 per ton, which helps competition,” he said, adding that supply takes place through four outlets, namely the Egyptian Company for Silos, the General Company for Silos, the Agricultural Development and Credit Bank and the coops.
Kamel projected 4 million tons this year versus 3.6 million last year, given that there is no diesel fuel shortage this year.
Hifzi Elias, undersecretary of the Ministry of Supply in Giza, said inspectors of the Ministry of Supply check the barns and the silos in order to facilitate the process and overcome any obstacles.
