Former parliament speaker Fathi Sorour has been detained for 15 days pending investigation. He is charged with abusing his power for personal profit, which he denies.
Investigations revealed that Sorour owned real estate in Cairo and other governorates that were not commensurate with his official income.
People gathered before the Illicit Gains Authority on Wednesday, where Sorour was being questioned, and shouted slogans against him as he came out of the building to be taken to the Tora prison.
