Fierce competition in Engineers Syndicate elections

Engineers Syndicate elections are to commence for the first time in 17 years on Friday, for choosing the president, members of the governing board and branch executives. Thirty-one candidates are running for president and 209 for board seats.

The elections are to be supervised by as many as 900 judges in 400 polling stations in Cairo and other governorates.

Competition was concentrated between the candidates of the Engineers Against Guardianship list, who seek independence for the syndicate, and those of the Muslim Brotherhood’s list.

The syndicate’s elections committee has a special telephone hot line and website for inquires. The syndicate numbers around 467,000 members.
