FIFA, CAF congratulate Al Ahly on FIFA Club World Cup bronze medal

Al Ahly football club received a special congratulations from the International and African Confederations after snatching the bronze medal in the FIFA Clubs World Cup on Thursday.

Ahly faced Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras from Brazil at the Education City stadium in Doha, as part of the FIFA Club World Cup. The match ended 3-2 after penalty shootout.

FIFA congratulated the team through the federation’s official account on Twitter.

FIFA wrote: “Al Ahly wins penalties and takes the bronze medal. Congratulations to Al-Ahly for winning third-place against Brazilian Palmeiras.”

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) also congratulated Al Ahly Club for the win on Twitter saying: “For the second time Al Ahly wins the bronze medal in the Club World Cup. Congratulations to the representative and hero of Africa.”

Ahly is the record champion of the CAF Champions League with nine titles, the last of which was won against Egypt’s Zamalek club in 2020.

The team last won the bronze medal in the same tournament in 2006, after a match against Mexico’s Club America.

Ahly is now preparing for the CAF Champions League, after the league’s group stage draw was held in Cairo on Friday, putting Ahly in group A along with Congo’s AS Vita Club, Tanzania’s Simba and Sudan’s Al Merrikh.

Ahly faces the Sudanese team on Tuesday in the first round of matches.
