A fire broke out on Monday in a ninth floor room of the Tahrir Complex, also know as the Mogamma, in central Cairo's Tahrir Square, said a security source.
The source said firefighters were trying to extinguish the fire before it spread to other rooms in the huge building.
The Mogamma contains the government offices of nearly 13 ministries, and includes passport and visa services, technical education and the mission management department.
On Wednesday, a group of protesting police officers set the Interior Ministry’s personnel building in downtown Cairo on fire. Over the past few days police have protested in front of the ministry against low pay and arbitrarily dismissals.
