First parliamentary action issued regarding funds of Egyptians expats in ‘Beit al-Watan’

Parliament Member Abdel-Moneim Emam directed a parliamentary question to Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Sherif al-Sherbiny regarding the fate of funds transferred by Egyptians expats to apply for the “Beit al-Watan” project.

Emam explained that thousands of Egyptians abroad have transferred their dollar savings to the project, amounting to more than one billion dollars, but have yet to receive the land they applied for.

In addition to questioning the unknown fate of the money, Emam asked: “Why haven’t sufficient land plots been offered in New Cairo and Sheikh Zayed, despite this being the primary demand of approximately 4,000 expatriates? Why is it only necessary to re-offer plots that had previously been rejected, rather than opening up new areas that fit the project’s nature and objectives?”

“How can the ministry announce 3,500 initial reservations when the electronic system allows a single user to reserve more than one plot, making the number insufficient to reflect actual demand? And why were the new additions limited to a very limited number (Four plots in Damietta, 25 in 15th of May City, 28 in Shorouk City) despite the massive demand?”

Emam emphasized that the government is required to clarify the situation to the public, provide an official and transparent response regarding the fate of expat funds abroad, and resolve the dilemmas surrounding the Beit al-Watan project.
