Five Brotherhood members jailed in police van attack

North Giza prosecutors on Thursday ordered the detention of five Muslim Brotherhood members for 15 days pending investigations and the arrest of nine other fugitives on charges of attacking a police van while transferring Brotherhood prisoners on the 26 July axis on Tuesday.

The prosecutors seized the car that was used in the attack, in which Molotov cocktail bottles and fireworks were found and sent to forensics for examination.

The accused also face charges of belonging to an armed group that aims to disturb peace and security, blocking the road, attempting to help prisoners escape, and possessing incendiary material that threatens the lives of peaceful citizens.

The defendants denied all charges and claimed they were arrested arbitrarily.

The security forces had arrested the accused while firing live ammunition at troops stationed at the checkpoint of the 26 July axis.
