FJP leader welcomes international efforts to resolve Egypt’s crisis

Khaled Hanafy, leading member of the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party, has welcomed international efforts to resolve Egypt's ongoing political crisis.

Hanafy, also a member of the pro-Morsy National Alliance in Support of Legitimacy, was responding to news of the latest visit of EU foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton.

The Freedom and Justice Party website quoted Hanafy as saying that legitimacy could not be compromised in order to be honest with the country.

Any offers or solutions that hinge on the relinquishing of legitimacy "would be doomed to fail," the Islamist politician claimed. "We are betting on the awareness of the people in the upcoming days," he said. "But we welcome any efforts to help in resolving the crisis."

Hanafy predicted that on 6 October the "anti-coup" protests would fill the streets of Egypt.

"6 October is an opportunity for coordination with other forces opposing the coup," he explained.
