Thick fog at Alexandria airport on Friday caused two planes arriving from Sharjah and Kuwait to be diverted to Cairo airport.
Sources at the Cairo airport stated that the airport in Alexandria had been forced to close during the early hours of Friday morning when visibility levels fell to less than 500 meters due to the fog. According to sources the Al-Arabiya plane originating in Sharjah changed course to Cairo, landing the 170 passengers at the airport there in safety.
Sources added that an Al-Jazeera plane arriving from Kuwait with 140 passengers on board also changed course to land in Cairo. Passengers were completed the onward journey to Alexandria by bus.
