For the first time in a decade, Egypt allows Turkish citizens visa on arrival

The Chargé d’Affaires of the Turkish Embassy to Egypt, Ambassador Salih Mutlu Şen announced Saturday that Turkish citizens will be able to enter Egypt by obtaining a visa on arrival, according to the Anadolu Agency.

On Sunday he added that the Egyptian government has announced facilities for Turkish citizens to enter Egypt.

“Our citizens will be able to enter Egypt without obtaining a visa in advance,” he wrote on Twitter.

“For the first time in the last ten years,” the Turkish ambassador tweeted, “After Egypt facilitated the Turkish citizens’ obtaining a visa to enter Egypt, it is expected that a group of Turkish tourists will head to the Egyptian territories from Izmir on a charter plane on April 19.”

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced during a meeting with the Egyptian Foreign Minister in Ankara, that both countries are interested in further developing bilateral relations.

Cavusoglu earlier in March thanked Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry for his visit to Turkey and his hope to continue exchanging visits between the two countries.

During a joint press conference with Shoukry on Saturday, Cavusoglu also expressed his thanks to Egypt for the assistance it provided to his country after the earthquake, which reflects the solidarity between the two countries.

Shoukry was one of the first officials to visit Turkey, he noted.

Cavusoglu added that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi took the initiative to contact Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to offer condolences, explaining that four Egyptian aid planes had arrived in Turkey.

He described relations between Turkey and Egypt as “historic” with a basis in a common culture, stressing: “This is why we want to strengthen relations between the two countries, which of course needs help and support from Presidents Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Recep Tayyip Erdogan.”
