Egypt on Wednesday reiterated its support for the Palestinian rejection of peace talks in light of Israel's refusal to freeze settlement construction.
"We are in an extremely tough position, for all US efforts over the past period have failed," Hossam Zaki, spokesperson for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, said, according to a Palestinian official news agency. "Therefore there is a need to listen to what the Americans have to say first and to know what ideas they have for the coming stage."
Zaki said the Israeli government does not want the peace process to advance. He called on the US to address Israeli intransigence.
The Arab Peace Initiative Committee will meet late on Wednesday, according to Zaki, who expressed hope that the summit will be able to formulate a plan for joint Arab action to address the recent peace process setbacks.
