Foreign Ministry following up case of Egyptian fishermen detained in Iran

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry is closely monitoring a situation where several Egyptian fishermen have detained by the Iranian authorities for entering Iranian territorial waters.

The fishermen’s vessel, legalized in Saudi Arabia, stranded near Fares Island.

Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs and Egyptian Expatriates, Yasser Hashim, said Monday that the fishermen were referred to the competent Iranian court.

Hashim stressed that the ministry was continuing its efforts to ensure the safety of fishermen, as well as follow up with the Iranian authorities to see their release.
