Judge Zaghloul al-Balshy, former secretary general of the Presidential Election Commission, passed away on Sunday at the age of 65 after a short battle with disease.
Balshy was one of the prominent figures of the Judiciary Independence Current. He resigned from the post of secretary general of the election commission that was supervising the 2012 constitution.
It was rumored that he did so due to the manipulation of results, however, he later confirmed that his resignation was for health reasons.
Balshy occupied the post of vice-chief of the appeals court and deputy justice minister.
He rejected Muslim Brotherhood proposals to amend the judicial authority law. He also opposed the pro-Brotherhood Judges for Egypt movement.
