The civil protection department was notified about the appearance of an unidentified object in the near vicinity of the club, which was confirmed to be a bomb.

Civil protection troops were dispatched to the location of the explosive, opposite the Administrative Control Authority building on the corniche, where they imposed a cordon and blocked off the road to traffic while the bomb was dismantled.

The bomb exploded while personnel were defusing it, injuring four. Those injured were identified to be police colonel Moataz Salama, the head of the fire fighting department, and conscripts Ibrahim Mohamed Suleiman and Mohamed Karim Magdy.
