Ahmed Abu Baraka, the legal adviser of the Freedom and Justice Party, the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood, was assaulted on Tuesday morning by unidentified assailants who tried to steal his bag. The attack took place on Mohamed Mahmoud Street, near the Interior Ministry.
In a statement on Tuesday, the party said that while Abu Baraka was walking down the street talking on his mobile phone, he saw a BMW veer sharply toward him. A man opened the back door and tried to snatch his bag. Abu Baraka tried to pull the man out of the car but the driver sped away, dragging him on the asphalt before the eyes of the ministry guards. He was not able to see the license plates.
The attack was the second on a senior member of the party's staff in four days. A few days ago, Mohamed al-Beltagy, the party’s Cairo secretary, was attacked in the village of Nama on the Qalubiya Governorate ring road.
