Thousands of protesters are arriving Friday at the Rabea al-Adaweya Mosque sit-in to participate in a mass protest organized by the National Alliance to Support Legitimacy, which consists of 40 political parties and movements of mostly Islamist persuasion.
Popular Committees are monitoring the site of the protest to prevent the entry of any undesirable elements. They also built towers inside and around the square and installed cameras above them to broadcast the activities of the sit-in live.
The organizers of the Rabea al-Adaweya Mosque sit-in have changed the main stage banner. A new one features the colors of the Egyptian flag and reads "democracy against the coup." The number of loudspeakers have also increased.
They have hung banners bearing the picture of ousted President Mohamed Morsy and others feature slogans against the "military coup" and defending legitimacy. The banners have been translated into many foreign languages for the benefit of the foreign media.
The National Alliance to Support Legitimacy and pro-Morsy protesters announced that marches would set out from 18 mosques after Friday prayers and would head to the sit-in in Rabea al-Adaweya in Nasr City and to Nahda Square in Giza.
Marches started at major mosques in Cairo and Giza, including the Khazendar Mosque in Shubra, Qods Mosque in Ain Shams, Salam Mosque in Nasr City, Maraghi Mosque in Helwan, Amr ibn al-Aas Mosque in Masr al-Qadima, Al-Rahman Al-Rahim Mosque on Salah Salem Street, and Mostafa Mahmoud Mosque in Mohandiseen.
Other marches are planned in different cities across the country under the slogan "the people want to overthrow the coup."
