FSA chief offers warning to Syrians in Egypt

Syrians living in Egypt should not involve themselves in the wave of protests currently sweeping Egypt, according to the Free Syrian Army's (FSA) Supreme Military Council chief, Selim Idris.

Idris accused several authorities in Egypt of trying to hire Syrians as "thugs" during simultaneous opposition and pro-government political demonstrations.

Speaking during a telephone interview with German news agency DPA, Idris expressed concerns over incidents in Egypt and their potential impact on the Syria revolution.

Egypt is a country of special regional and international important, Idris said, adding that events in Egypt lead attention away from Syria.

Referring to incidents during and after the 25 January revolution, the top FSA commander said "turbulence…negatively affected the Arab revolutions."

"It sent a message to the West that such Arab revolutions led to states of instability," he added.

“As everybody knows, their are attempts by Russia and Iran to send a message to the West that extremists and Islamists are the alternative if the Syrian regime, led by President Bashar al-Assad, was ousted, this would endanger international stability and Israeli security."
