Gamal Mubarak campaigners tender mass resignation

Signs of internal discord within the self-styled Gamal Mubarak Support Coalition emerged after 101 coalition members in Daqahliya, including coalition coordinator Nevine al-Deeb, resigned en masse on Wednesday.

Al-Deeb said she planned to form a new coalition–dubbed "Together for Freedom"–which would also campaign for Gamal Mubarak, the 47-year-old son of President Hosni Mubarak, in next year’s presidential elections.

She declined, however, to discuss the reasons for the recent spate of resignations.

“The new coalition will aim to collect 2.5 million signatures in support of a Gamal Mubarak presidential bid,” al-Deeb said.

Supporters of would-be presidential contender Mohamed ElBaradei, meanwhile, have reportedly placed 10,000 posters in support of their candidate throughout the Governorate of Gharbiya.
