Petroleum Minister Sherif Ismail said the government will sign a contract to import 35 shipments of natural gas from Russia by the end of this month. This contract will be signed in Cairo between Russian Gazprom company and the Egyptian Holding Company for Gas.
The minister said there would be seven annual shipments of liquid gas from Russia as of 2016 for a period of five years. “Each shipment is 160,000 tons sufficient for 30 days,” Ismail said. “We are also negotiating for four additional shipments this year.”
He said the contract was agreed when Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Egypt a few days ago.
He added that Egypt is importing petroleum products from more than one source. “When the prime minister of Kuwait was here last month, he promised to study our request to import petroleum products to meet our market needs,” he said.
