The Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) received a report from the Director of the South Sinai Reserves and the Mutual Aid Center at the Regional Authority for the Conservation of the Environment of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden about the stranding of a gas vessel on the Ras Nasrani reef at the entrance to the Gulf of Aqaba.
The head of the EEAA, Ali Abo-Sena, inspected the scene of the incident on Sunday, following up on all ongoing legal and technical procedures from the Red Sea Marine Park Authority regarding the stranded ship.
Abo-Sena ordered a state of environmental emergency in anticipation of any leaks or pollution from the ship.
Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad also directed to raise the level of preparedness at the Marine Pollution Control Center at the al-Salam Center in Sharm el-Sheikh.
The South Sinai reserves have seen large demand by tourists from all over the world during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations, Foaud said, who must adhere to the requirements and rules of visiting to preserve natural resources.
