The Board of Directors of the Grand Egyptian Museum Authority, headed by Tourism and Antiquities Minister Khaled al-Anani, met on Wednesday to plan moving King Khufu’s two archaeological boats to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).
Major General Atef Moftah, GEM’s supervisor, presented on engineering developments and the process of transferring Khufu’s first boat from its current location at the Pyramids area in Giza to the Grand Egyptian Museum.
He stressed that over a year of studies and preparations have led to the transfer of the boat.
Moftah added that the museum’s security systems are top notch, using advanced equipment and meeting the highest international security standards.
On a related note, Assistant Minister for Archaeological Affairs at the Grand Museum, al-Tayeb Abbas, presented the latest developments in the museum’s display work, pointing out that the archaeological work in the Great Staircase is fully completed.
The rest of the halls are being prepared to receive the artifacts, he added.
During the meeting, the board ordered the formation of a higher committee to oversee the implementation of operation services by the private company that signed on on to do so in April.
