Giza residents threaten to stage protests over sewage leaks

Residents of Giza's Faisal district have threatened to stage sit-ins before Giza municipal headquarters if officials failed to solve ongoing sewage leaks.

Raw sewage has flooded the streets of the district and threatened local residents, especially children, with all sorts of disease, they say.

They also complain that the basements of a number of high-rise buildings in the area have been flooded with sewage, which could lead to their collapse.

“My store has been inundated with sewage and my merchandise damaged,” said frustrated shop owner Motaz Atta.

“Nobody parks in my garage since it was flooded by sewage,“ said Faisal resident Hemdan Shaaban, angrily noting that the garage represented his sole source of income.
