At a press conference after a cabinet meeting Wednesday, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Fayza Abouelnaga said that an inventory of 351 government institutions’ special funds found out they contain a net total of LE36.2 billion.
“The inventory was conducted by the Finance Ministry and the Central Bank,” she explained, adding that there are another four such funds yet to be examined, which are estimated to contain LE8 billion.
“The Ganzouri government is the first to examine these funds and check where the money is spent,” she said. “And there is a whole staff that is paid in salaries and bonuses to manage those funds.”
The minister confirmed that no minister was paid anything from those funds.
