The appointment of new governors has been postponed until the first week of August in order to ensure that the most qualified candidates are chosen, said Local Development Minister Mohamed Atteya. Originally, the prime minister had promised to complete the appointments by the end of July.
Meanwhile, a ministry official said that many incumbent governors do not wish to remain in office, and added that the prime minister did not accept the resignation Alexandria's governor Essam Salem. He also said that the status of Qena Governor Emad Mikhail, who has been llargely rejected by residents there, remains undecided.
The governor reshuffle would be limited, he said, adding that current governors have not held their positions long enough to allow them to be judged.
