Govt bans horse carts from Mahala streets, drivers protest

More than 350 horse cart owners on Wednesday staged protests in the Nile Delta city of Mahala against being banned from the city’s main streets under the pretext that they obstruct traffic.

Demanding that authorities revoke the decision, they defended what they considered their only means of livelihood.
Protesters blocked oncoming traffic in front of the city’s local council.

Governor Abdel Hamid al-Shenawy met with some of the protesters and vowed to help them.
