Cabinet decided on Wednesday to task the Finance Ministry with banning the import of motorcycles and tuk-tuks for a year, and their production components for three months.
It also obliged the Interior Ministry to put strict conditions for licensing any new motorcycles and give a two-week ultimatum for owners of unlicensed motorcycles and tuk-tuks to complete their papers.
The Interior Ministry had proposed those restrictions in light of the attacks by unidentified motorcycle riders on police officers, the latest incident of which was on Tuesday in Ismailia, where a traffic police officer was killed.
