Grand Egyptian Museum to close from October 15-November 4 ahead of official opening

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced that the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) will be temporarily closed from October 15 to November 4, as part of the final preparations for the museum’s official opening, slated for November 1.

The CEO of the GEM, Ahmed Ghoneim, explained that during this period the museum will carry out several organizational and logistical tasks in preparation for the official opening ceremony.

The museum will resume receiving visitors during official working hours starting November 4, which marks the 103rd anniversary of the discovery of the tomb of King Tutankhamun, allowing visitors to enjoy the museum’s full tourist experience.

The GEM has been undergoing trial operations for a number of its locations since October 16, and the Museum Authority began implementing the new official opening hours for these locations in February.

The museum welcomes visitors in summer and winter, every day of the week, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. It is also open in the evening on Saturdays and Wednesdays of every week, from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.
