Prince Georg von Habsburg, Assistant Hungarian Prime Minister and grandson of King Charles I of Austria, alongside Ambassador of Hungary to Egypt Péter Kveck were welcomed to Egypt on Thursday by Father Kamal Labib, the Provincial Minister of the Franciscan Brotherhood at the Saint Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church.
The Liturgy was presided over by Father Labib in conjunction with Monsignor Joachim Schroedel. The Saint Joseph Church choir performed hymns under the leadership of Father Peter Daniel, head of the Catholic Center for Cinema.
Prince Prince Georg said he was very happy to attend mass in Egypt, praising the wonderful performance of Saint Joseph choir.
He added that Egypt is a special place for him to visit during the Christmas holiday.
The Prince also praised Egypt-Hungarian relations, which began since Khedive Ismail’s opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 and saw the King of Hungary participate.
Father Kamal Labib said that the visit was especially congratulatory as the Prince visited the Church of Saint Joseph during the Franciscan Monastic celebrations of the 800 year anniversary of Saint Francis of Assisi’s visit to Egypt.
