Gunfight over traffic in Upper Egypt kills four people

Four people were killed and two others were injured during a gunfight at the Dairut city, Assiut governorate.

A heated argument over the priority of traffic on the road between two groups of people riding motorcycles escalated into a violent conflict, the state-run Al-Ahram newspaper reported on Saturday.

Authorities from the Assiut Security Directorate managed to arrest five people and seized their weapons after being informed of a disturbance in Dairut.

Police forces immediately moved to the scene, and found that a quarrel erupted between the first party (nine people), the second party (seven people).

Information and investigations revealed that the quarrel developed into a gunfight, during which the second party fired shots, which led to the injury of people from the first party and the death of three others and the death of a citizen who happened to pass through the scene of the incident.

The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Five people from the second party were arrested. During interrogations they confessed to committing the incident, and with their guidance, four automatic rifles used in the incident were seized.

Legal measures were taken and the Public Prosecution office took over the investigation.
