Unidentified assailants attacked a checkpoint on the eastern desert road in Beni Suef late Tuesday, injuring a police officer.
While the checkpoint police force was inspecting the area between Wasty and Nasser in Beni Suef, they found a pickup truck parked on the side of the road. The vehicle's three passengers fired at the police, who were inspecting the vehicle, before escaping.
Low-ranking police officer Mohamed Badr was shot in the back and taken to Beni Suef General Hospital in critical condition.
