Health minister, Chinese ambassador discuss sharing immunization records between Egypt and China

In a phone call Monday evening, Health Minister Hala Zayed discussed with China’s Ambassador to Egypt, Liao Li Chang, the exchange of medical and immunization records of travelers between the two countries through a QR code-based system.

Each QR code would contain a traveler’s PCR test results, antibodies test results, and their vaccination status, Health and Population Minisry Spokesperson Khaled Megahed, said.

He stressed the cabinet’s approval of the agreement, saying that it would further facilitate movement, trade, and other economic activity between the two countries.

Zayed and Change also discussed pandemic and vaccine-related cooperation between Egypt and China.

China plans to send another batch of 500,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine to Egypt within the month, Megahed announced. China has agreed to provide Egypt with 20 million doses of the vaccine.

The call further addressed a joint manufacturing agreement between the two countries that will allow Egypt to produce China’s Sinovac vaccine locally, at Vacsera.

The Chinese government meanwhile thanked President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi for his efforts in preparing Vacsera, and encouraged other governments manufacturers to follow suit.
