Health Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Kamel has said that number of victims killed during Friday clashes which erupted between security troops and Muslim Brotherhood supporters in Cairo and governorates reached 14, while the injured reached 62 persons.
27 injured left hospitals after treatment, while other 35 are still being treated.
“The victims and injured were mainly in Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Ismailia, Fayyoum, Beni Suef and Minya,” Kamel told Al-Masry Al-Youm on Saturday.
Senior security source from Interior Ministry earlier said that the clashes at some governorates left 17 victims and 17 injured security personnel.
“Ten people were killed in Cairo, three in Fayyoum, two in Alexandria, one in Ismailiya and one in Minya,” the source added on Saturday.
“Security services arrested 258 supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood during violence that took place at some governorates. Some of them were possessing primitive bombs, arms, edged weapons, molotovs, fireworks and sums of money,” the source said.
The source also indicated that a policeman’s vehicle was burnt in Omraniya, while two others were burnt in Beni Suef. Al-Mandara traffic office in Alexandria was set on fire.
Several marches were staged in Cairo and other governorates on Friday between security and Brotherhood supporters against ‘military coup’ and constitution. Security confronted the marches and protests by the Brotherhood who were calling for release of the students and members affiliated to the group.
