Ibrahim Mostafa, assistant to the health minister and the official responsible for dealing with the doctors’ strike at the ministry, said that the percentage of doctors participating in the strike has gone down to 1.5 percent on Saturday, which is the lowest rate since it began on 1 October.
“The strike is coming to an end, as evidenced in the low rate of participation in the strike,” he said.
Mostafa told Al-Masri Al-Youm that doctors from the ministry were sent to conduct personal interviews with the striking doctors to try to convince them to end the strike.
Mostafa added that the ministry and all its departments in various governorates around the country have not received collective or individual resignations from doctors so far.
The ministry has started a campaign to communicate with hospital doctors to resolve the disputes, especially as the draft amendments to medical professionals' regulations are about to be completed before Eid al-Adha, according to Mostafa.
On the calls to protest and start a sit-in in front of the ministry, Mostafa said that such calls are not decisions made by the Doctors Syndicate's council or general assembly, but are personal calls, citing he was told by syndicate head Khairi Abdel Dayem.
