Heatwave strikes Egypt over 72 hour period: EMA

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) forecasts a continued gradual rise in temperatures across most of the country over the next 72 hours.

Hot weather is expected in northern Egypt, Greater Cairo, and Upper Egypt, with the heatwave peaking on Wednesday, bringing temperatures close to 40C in southern Egypt.

Weather maps warn of fog from four to nine am in areas from northern Egypt to Greater Cairo, the Suez Canal cities, northern Upper Egypt, and central Sinai.

The EMA advised citizens to stay in well-ventilated areas, keep well-hydrated, and avoiding direct sun exposure.

Winds are expected to reach speeds of 30-35 km/h in parts of South Sinai, potentially stirring up sand and dust at times.

There will also be a slight chance of low clouds forming over scattered areas of the northern coast, the Nile Delta, Greater Cairo, and the Suez Canal cities.

Monday’s temperatures:

  • Matrouh: 23C
  • Alexandria: 24C
  • Sharm El-Sheikh: 28C
  • Cairo, Hurghada: 29C
  • Luxor: 32C
