With a flourishing boutique in Mohandessin and a new one opening in the First Mall at the Four Seasons, it’s little wonder the women who shop at HIP appeared at the First Mall opening all decked out. In a scene that looked straight out of "Sex and the City," Cairo’s female elite sipped sodas and popped strawberry tartlettes while perusing the racks for Lanvin, Zac Posen, Robert Rodriguez, and Amen.
Though price tags rarely dropped below the LE2000 mark, no one seemed fazed. Women strutted around in elongated fur vests, sequin and pearl adorned cocktail dresses, and sweater wraps for admiring eyes and a little extra encouragement to purchase.
While the food was scrumptious and eavesdropping on the whispered gossip was thoroughly entertaining, the setting lacked a place to sit and soak in the glitzy atmosphere, especially if you had matched your tiny town dress with a pair of stilettos—a predicament in which most HIP guests found themselves.
So unless you were curled up on the couch in the back or your extreme desire to see and be seen was enough to overcome foot pain, the best thing to do was at the opening was breeze in, check out the merchandise (noting what was sold and what was not), and breeze out in quite the same fashion, strawberry tartlette or mini mousse au chocolat in hand.
