HBO to start filming series ‘Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon’

The American premium cable and satellite television network Home Box Office (HBO) will start filming the series “House of the Dragon” based on George Martin’s book “Fire and Blood”. The plot of the series is set 300 years before that of the “Game of Thrones” series, the network said on Wednesday.

The series premiered on HBO in the United States in April 2011 and concluded in May 2019, with 73 episodes broadcast over eight seasons.

The series will depict the stories of the Targaryen kings who had ruled the “Game of Thrones” land of Westeros for several eras. It will be directed by Miguel Sapochnik, who directed six episodes of the flagship show, including “Battle of the Bastards”.

Emilia Clarke, 32, known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in the “Game of Thrones” series, will star in the prequel, said HBO.

“The world of Game of Thrones is rich in stories. We look forward to exploring the origins of Targaryen and the early days of Westeros,” said Casey Blues, president of the HBO US group.

“Game of Thrones” won Best Drama Series at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards 2019 after the close of its eight-season run. The 2019 Emmy awards ceremony was held on September 22 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
