Hours after he was found innocent of graft charges on Tuesday, former Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif was also cleared in a separate corruption case after repaying illegally-obtained funds.
Prosecutors decided to release the former premier after he paid LE1,147,850, representing the value of gifts he and his wife had illegally received from state-run Al-Ahram publishing house.
The discharge came hours after Nazif was declared innocent of graft charges which also implicated former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly. The corruption case involved the granting of license plate imports to German company UTSCH, in violation of the law that requires the holding of tenders.
