Human rights council joins call to draft constitution before elections

The National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) on Thursday called for writing a new constitution for a democratic state that respects human rights and achieves the goals of the revolution before parliamentary or presidential elections.

The council said writing a constitution before the elections would be in accordance with the basis of any modern state, the general interest of nations and experiences of past revolutions.

However, council member Amr Hamzawy disagreed.

“Writing the constitution first repeals the results of the referendum that was recently conducted on certain constitutional amendments,” he said.
