Humanitarian situation in Gaza becoming “more and more catastrophic,” Doctors Without Borders coordinator warns

From CNN’s Lex Harvey

The humanitarian situation in Gaza is only becoming “more and more catastrophic” as Israel’s war stretches into its third year, the emergency coordinator for Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in the enclave told CNN’s Lynda Kinkade.

Following the Israeli military’s attacks on Gaza City, hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to flee south, where they lack shelter, clean water and food, said Aitor Zabalgogeazkoa, who spoke to CNN from Khan Younis.

Medical facilities in Gaza are overcrowded, with shortages of everything from fuel to medicine, he said.

Nasser Hospital, which has been struck repeatedly by Israel, is often treating more than 1,000 patients in a facility with just 390 beds, Zabalgogeazkoa said.

MSF workers in Gaza are “struggling on a daily basis,” he said, noting that two of his colleagues were recently killed in an air strike while waiting for the bus to go to work.
