Hussein bombing suspects remanded into custody

State Security prosecutors have remanded into custody four suspects charged with involvement in the February bombing in Cairo’s Hussein district that killed one French tourist and injured several others.

According to judicial sources, the prosecution has concluded its investigations and the defendants — including one Briton and two Belgian nationals — will be referred to Egypt’s Supreme State Security Court.

Mamdouh Ismail, a lawyer for the defendants, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that his clients had also been charged with "belonging to a banned organization" that aimed "to topple the regime."

Ismail also alleged that police tortured the suspects in prison in an effort to extract false confessions of their guilt.
