Media Professional Ibrahim Eissa accused the government of failing to effectively fight terrorism, saying they are mistaken for negotiating with Aboud al-Zomor, a far-right Islamist.
During a talk show aired on the privately-owned TV channel ONTV, Eissa said, “The state security [agency] has gotten us into an impasse for being involved in politics. We staged the 25 January revolution and then the 30 June revolution. We then returned to demand that national security fight terrorism, only for them to get involve in elections. They call party chiefs and give support to electoral lists.”
Eissa also criticized the government for negotiating with Zomor, who spent around 30 years in prison over involvement in assassination of President Anwar al-Sadat. “He is visiting security services,” he said. “We are making the same crime committed by the former regime, which is being committed by the current regime. We are negotiating with Salafis and Jama'a al-Islamiya.”
