Investigations into Shura Council Speaker Safwat al-Sherif commenced on Monday. He faces allegations of profiteering and abusing power during the rule of deposed president Hosni Mubarak.
Ahmed Tolba, head of the investigations department at the Illicit Gains Authority (IGA), will preside over the investigations.
Although rumored to have fled to London, al-Sherif arrived in his own car. His bodyguards tried to hinder the media from photographing him before he entered IGA offices.
