The Illicit Gains Authority (IGA) is waiting for the title deeds that Suzanne Mubarak, wife of deposed President Hosni Mubarak, promised to submit in order to prove the legality of her assets and liquid money.
Mrs. Mubarak is being detained in Sharm el-Sheikh International Hospital for 15 days pending investigation. She is charged with abusing her husband’s power in accruing a fortune of LE20 million.
Meanwhile, Nazih Gadallah, director of the Interior Ministry’s department of prisons, said he had not received any orders to move Mrs. Mubarak to the Qanater prison. “Once an order is given, we will put her in a single cell, so as to secure her,” he said.
Tanks and armored vehicles are now guarding the prison, and medicines have been sent in preparation for the arrival of Mrs. Mubarak, should the order to move her be given.
Mubarak’s sons, Alaa and Gamal, were reported to be “depressed” when they heard their mother had been detained, but they declined to postpone their questioning and insisted on pressing ahead as planned.
